Harvest Your Efforts: Reap the Rewards of Your Hard Work
If you were raised in the 70s and 80s like me, you probably grew up with a very particular mindset about work: if you’re not sweating, exhausted, or pushing through pain, then you’re not really working.
That work ethic shaped so many of us—but it also came with a challenge. We learned to work hard, but not always to enjoy the fruits of our labor. We move from one task to the next, chasing the next goal, without ever truly pausing to celebrate.
Here’s the truth: hard work is only half the equation. The other half is harvesting the rewards. Just like a farmer wouldn’t till the soil, plant the seeds, and water them endlessly without expecting a harvest—we, too, need to recognize, enjoy, and celebrate what our effort has produced.
1.Know What You’re Planting
A farmer knows exactly what seed he’s planting. He doesn’t put tomatoes in the soil and expects bananas. In the same way, you need clarity about what you’re working toward.
If you don’t define your “harvest,” you won’t recognize it when it comes. Ask yourself:
What do I want right now?
What am I working for in this season of life and business?
And here’s the grace: your goals can evolve. Maybe at one point becoming a billionaire sounded exciting, but later you realize freedom, balance, or creative impact matter more. That’s not failure—that’s growth. Just like a farmer shifts crops when conditions change, you too can redirect your focus.
👉 Action Step: Write down your top 3 goals for this quarter. Be specific about the “seeds” you’re planting so you’ll know when to celebrate the harvest.
2. Celebrate Along The Way
We’ve been taught to delay gratification, to keep our heads down until the work is done. But that’s short-sighted. Why? Because life is happening right now.
The reward isn’t just the final outcome—it’s the process:
Planting the seed.
Watering it.
Watching the sun nourish it.
Seeing the first green sprout break through the soil.
Every stage is worth celebrating. Each small step forward is part of the harvest.
👉 Action Step: This week, celebrate one step you’ve already taken toward your goal. Don’t wait for the “big win” to honor your progress.
3.Give Yourself A Permission To Recap
Some of us are uncomfortable receiving the rewards we’ve worked for. We feel like we should immediately dive into the next project, hustle harder, or “earn it again.” But that mindset keeps us stuck in exhaustion instead of joy.
When the harvest comes in, you have to allow yourself to enjoy it. Rest. Celebrate. Share it with others. This isn’t indulgence—it’s the natural balance of effort and reward.
👉 Action Step: Identify one reward from your recent hard work—whether it’s income, a client win, or simply progress. Allow yourself to enjoy it without guilt.
4.Be Willing To Grow And Shift
Remember: not every crop thrives in every soil. Sometimes we plant seeds and discover they’re not the right fit. That doesn’t mean failure—it means it’s time to pivot.
Stay open. Stay flexible. Allow your goals, strategies, and even your dreams to evolve with you. The harvest isn’t just about outcomes—it’s about the lessons learned along the way.
